There is much to see at the ballpark, and it all matters because it's all matter!

In this fast-paced rhyming story, science and baseball fans alike will be pleased to have front row seats to view all the matter - whether solid, liquid or gas - that makes up what truly matters at the ballpark and beyond. As the camera zooms in on instant replay, things slow down long enough to see all those atoms in motion. The scoreboard, a slushie, and even the air - wherever you look, it's matter in there.

With cleverly constructed, action-oriented illustrations that make learning about science simple and fun, this book knocks matter out of the ballpark and is sure to score a homerun with enthusiastic young readers.

Grades K-2 Peanuts, Cracker Jack, pop flies . . . and physics? As fans of all ages fill the stadium, a videographer sets up her camera to film all the matter around. Explaining matter as "anything taking up space," the book "zoom[s] in on atoms" before introducing readers to solids, liquids, and gasses as they appear throughout a ballpark. Clothing, slushies, and the air in an overhead blimp offer relatable examples of matter for the young audience, while lively action sequences and an upbeat, rhyming cadence sustain a read-aloud pace as energetic as the game. "The scoreboard is solid and so is the bat. A jersey is solid, along with a hat." The videography theme is reinforced with play and pause symbols and an instant replay, and the Thornes (Wanda the Brave, 2022) use small dots and grids throughout their digital art to reiterate the omnipresence of matter. Early elementary science teachers will especially appreciate this unexpected and delightful collision of sports and early STEM concepts.
