In the fifth electrifying thriller featuring Will Cochrane, the Intelligence agent must solve the unsolvable: How did four international agents working on a super-secret mission die in a safe house bunker that was locked from the inside?

Critics have called Will Cochrane a "ruthless yet noble" (Ft. Worth Star-Telegram), "one-man weapon of mass destruction" (Daily Telegraph)—a brilliant agent from whom "Bond and Bourne could learn a thing or two" (Madison County Herald). His latest assignment will plunge him into the thorny politics of the Middle East. The stakes: averting a war that could engulf the world in flames.

When the Israeli ambassador to France is shot dead in Paris by an unknown sniper, the Israeli government blames Hamas and begins planning a massive invasion to obliterate the terrorist organization once and for all. To avoid an all-out war, three members of the UN Security Council—the United States, France, and the United Kingdom—assemble a team of intelligence agents to uncover the truth behind the assassination.

But when the team stops responding and all four agents are found dead in a bunker locked from the inside, they turn to freelance intelligence operative Will Cochrane for answers. To find out what really happened in the Paris shooting and in the bunker and prevent an unwinnable war, Cochrane will use his years of knowledge and experience to unravel the truth . . . and maybe just keep himself alive.

In Dunn’s slow-developing fifth novel featuring Will Cochrane (after 2014’s Dark Spies), the assassination of Israel’s French ambassador puts Israel on the brink of waging a war to end Hamas. Adm. Tobias Mason, an adviser to the U.S. president, creates a joint intelligence outpost in Beirut manned by four top agents—French, British, American, and Israeli—to discover whether Hamas was responsible for the assassination. When the four are found shot dead in their operational headquarters, it appears that American agent Roger Koenig killed them before being killed himself. Mason tasks Cochrane, now a free agent no longer attached to the CIA-MI6 Task Force S, to investigate. A mysterious and shadowy figure known only as Thales puts two able men in motion to stop Cochrane. In addition, a mole in Mason’s office monitor’s Cochrane’s every move. A subplot involving a 12-year-old West Bank youth adds some suspense to this otherwise routine spy thriller. Agent: Luigi Bonomi, Luigi Bonomi Associates (U.K.).

Dunn's latest in his Spycatcher series is another page-turner. In a locked-room twist on the espionage novel, a sniper in Paris shoots the Israeli ambassador in a seemingly impregnable safe house, and the blame-meisters kick into high gear. It only gets worse when a UN Security Council group convenes, and three members are soon found killed, too. Clearly, this is a case for Will Cochrane, all the more so because one of the victims was a close personal friend of the vaunted spycatcher. Dunn maintains his up-tempo pace without sacrificing character development and while allowing the tension to build incrementally. The ending makes clear that another entry in the series is on the way, and it can't arrive fast enough.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2015, American Library Association.)
